Professor Hussein Warsame is an accomplished academic and leader in the field of
accounting. Currently, he serves as Professor and Accounting Area Chair at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary.
Professor Warsame holds a BSc in Chemistry from Somali National University, an MBA concentrating in Accounting from California State University-Fresno, and a Ph.D. in Management with specializations in Accounting and Taxation from the University of Calgary. Since joining the Haskayne School of Business in 2000, Professor Warsame has taught extensively in financial accounting, auditing, and taxation at the undergraduate, MBA, EMBA, and PhD levels. He has received numerous honors for teaching excellence, including the Great Supervisor Award, Dean’s Award for Ph.D. Support, and the Student Union Teaching Excellence Award. Prior to Calgary, he served on the faculty of Concordia University and has lectured at institutions globally including UAE University, UNIQWA, Centrum, and Somali National University. An active leader in his field, Professor Warsame serves on the Board of Directors for the Somali Central Bank. With his outstanding qualifications and dedication to education, he continues to prepare new generations of accounting professionals and business leaders.
Dr. Abdi Ali Hassan is a distinguished professor and former high-ranking government official whose career demonstrates a deep passion for and expertise in Somali politics. He has extensive experience at both the local and national levels, including serving three terms as a Member of Parliament. In Parliament, Dr. Hassan held leadership roles on key committees overseeing finance, environment, food security, elections, and foreign affairs. His previous government positions include State Minister of Interior and National Security, and 2022 Presidential Candidate. Currently, Dr. Hassan teaches economics at Somali National University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Agro-food Policy from the University of Udine in Italy. Throughout his career, he has focused on building peace through inclusive politics,
sustainable economic development, and cross-cultural cooperation. Dr. Hassan excels at bringing diverse groups together to find optimal solutions to complex challenges.
Dr. Ali S. Faqi is a distinguished scientist, researcher, and political leader. Currently a Member of Parliament and the Foreign Affairs Committee, he previously served as Speaker of the South West State Assembly. His diplomatic career includes appointments as Somalia’s Ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, and the European Union. He represented Somalia at the UNESCO and OPCW and as a co-agent in the ICJ maritime dispute with Kenya.Upon the election of President Farmajo, Dr. Faqi was Interim Chief of Staff, Special Envoy for Somali migrants in Libya, and Senior Foreign Affairs Advisor. He was also a member of the Somalia-Eritrea-Ethiopia High-Level Joint Committee. Professionally, Dr. Faqi holds degrees in Veterinary Medicine, Experimental Pharmacology, and a Ph.D. in Toxicology. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine. His academic background and political experience position him as a highly knowledgeable leader in regional and international affairs
Maryan Dualle is a doctoral candidate pursuing an Interdisciplinary PhD in Nutrition at The Ohio State University, where she also earned her BS in Human Nutrition. She holds an MPH in Prevention Science from Emory University. Dedicated to community health and nutrition promotion, Ms. Dualle has held leadership roles including Executive Director of Global Health Education Development in Ohio and Maternal and Child Nutrition Advisor to the Puntland Ministry of Health. She has worked extensively to improve access to culturally competent nutrition services. Currently, her research focuses on food security, dietary behaviors, and mental health in African immigrant and refugee communities. She aspires to advance immigrant and refugee health through local and national food and nutrition policies. Ms. Dualle serves on several boards and committees, including the OSU Graduate Society of Nutritional Sciences, American Society for Nutrition, Ohio Department of Health Disparities and Cultural Competency Advisory Committee, and Somalia’s Scaling Up Nutrition Advisory Committee. Passionate about health equity and nutrition for all, Ms. Dualle leverages her leadership, research, and policy experience to promote culturally informed nutrition globally.
Dr. Bashir Nur Hassan Loyan is an accomplished global executive with over 20 years of experience driving governance, risk, and compliance strategies for leading financial institutions worldwide. As an innovative strategic leader, he has successfully managed large-scale GRC initiatives, global systems implementations, process improvements, and quality management frameworks. Dr. Loyan adeptly balances regulatory, technical, and operational requirements while interacting effectively with regulatory authorities. He has built and managed relationships with diverse internal and external partners, leading international teams across 38 countries in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. Abdirizak Adam Hassan is an accomplished international relations professional with
extensive experience advising the Somali government. Currently, as Senior Federalism
Advisor to the President, he has been instrumental in Somalia’s restructuring into a federal system of governance. Previously, Mr. Hassan served as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff/Permanent Secretary in the Transitional Federal Government, playing a key role in policymaking, coordination, and reconciliation efforts. He has actively contributed to national and international initiatives to bring stability and peace to Somalia. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hassan worked as a journalist for the Khaleej Times in Dubai, gaining valuable experience in reporting, correspondence, and news editing. He frequently appears in media, and interviews, and writes articles focused on Somali politics, security, and development. His research interests include warlordism, Somalia’s future prospects, and the limitations of regional interventions.
Mr. Hassan holds a Master’s in International Relations from Carleton University and a BA in Political Science and International Relations. He also obtained a Diploma in Mass Communication, specializing in News Journalism, from the Emirates Institute of Journalism.
